Pretty Girl of the Day, April 29, 2013

I’m so upset, my sweater-dress shrunk in the wash.  It used to be so cute!  I wore it a lot, but now I’m wondering if I can wear it at all.  Please let me know in the comments what you think I should do.  I know you’ll help me with my dilemma.  Thanks so much, everyone!

Of course, you can still wear it. The image proves you can still wear it. The question is whether it is a dress or a top. Philosophically, it is still a dress. It was a dress into the wash, and it would be a dress coming out of the wash. Your washer/dryer are not tailors or seamstresses. On the other hand, one might argue the washer/dryer did make alternations. Yet, no cuts were made. All the material that made it a dress are still intact.

I suggest wearing to class, and stopping on the Common Grounds to engage your fellow students in this debate. Is the essence of the dress still there since all threads making the dress remain? Seek out our Philosophy department, especially Ancient Greek Philosophy to fully engage the nature of your dress/top.

You are so cute. I think you will also soon realize that you will have quite an advantage at school by choosing to wear this. However, I would not let on that you already know that it is really a sweater.
